Bush=Hitler goes mainstream

According to a press release from Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN):

Contact: David James of the Republican National Committee, 202-863-8536

WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The following is a statement by U.S. Senator Norm Coleman regarding John Kerry's Minnesota DFL Party's distribution of bumper stickers comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler:

"When I first heard about these outrageous and offensive bumper stickers being distributed at the epicenter of Kerry's Minnesota campaign, I didn't believe it. It is absolutely unconscionable to me that supporters of the Massachusetts Senator think it's a good idea to try and stir the base by making this offensive and outrageous comparison. Someone needs to tell John Kerry that this is not the way we do things in the American heartland. I call on Senator Kerry to renounce the message of these bumper stickers now and demand that their staff stop distributing them now."

I haven't seen these stickers, but as a native of the Midwest, I hope this report is true. Americans from the heartland are far too sensible for this crap, and if the DFL is really distributing bumper stickers comparing Bush to Hitler, it will surely backfire.

Update: It appears that this was a snafu at party headquarters. An independent group mailed the stickers to the party, and a staffer placed them on a counter with other bumper stickers where they were noticed by a Republican. Rather than apologize for the mixup, the DFL chairman blamed Republicans. Huh?

What's with the "huh?" You're not really surprised are you? Everything is Republicans' fault -- we're Sauron's minions, remember? We make Baby Jesus cry. There should be a law against being Republican. We kill baby seals and make the ozone layer disappear. We killed off the dinosaurs. we steal toys from babies' cribs. We make sure the Red Sox will never win the pennant. We kick puppies. We arrange for it to rain on 4th of July parades. We mug Santa Claus. We are the cause of all the world's ills, including war, famine, disease, death, hate, pestilence, famine, anger, ugliness, acne, bad vibes, and Wayne Newton. The world, nay, the UNIVERSE would be better off without us.

Once you remember this, everything that happens in modern politics makes sense.
